ABOUT:
Wild World Education is a new nature-based, experiential schooling program for grades 6-9 beginning in the Fall of 2011.
Wild World Education - a program of the Cultural Wellness and Family Enrichment Center - is comprised of innovative classes and expeditions to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual needs of our 21st century children and families. Wild World programs are intended to serve those families looking for a comprehensive education that can replace standardized schooling; or a selection of classes to enrich education provided in the home. Wild World emphasizes experiential and multi-generational learning; creativity; the arts; and deepening connections with the natural world. In addition to language, history, culture, math, science, performing and visual art classes, Wild World offers classes such as building, gardening, and service learning projects, as well as outdoor learning expeditions. Programming takes place in both indoor and outdoor natural wilderness environments. Learning is integrated, active and exploratory, and is accomplished through nature, art, experiential and service learning methodologies.
Benefits: Wild World’s nature-based core curriculum was created utilizing integrated learning theory, Arizona State Educational Standards, and sustainable education principles. As such, it appeals to families seeking an education that will truly prepare their children to thrive – professionally, psychologically, physically, and spiritually – in a rapidly changing environment. The curriculum is designed to: enliven the imagination and wonderment inherent in childhood; integrate learning processes for deeper understanding; foster creativity and self-expression; and facilitate growth in problem solving, work ethics, and “hands-on” skill building through practical work and service learning projects. The learning activities hold the child – during an often confusing period of childhood – allowing each youth to discover his/her capabilities of critical thought, problem solving, innovation, self-trust, empowerment, and reverence for self, others, and the natural world.
